Mitsubishi released the details of the Lancer Evolution X Group N which is the WRC Rally version of the high performance 4WD sedan released last week. The Lancer Evolution X Group N will be used as the course car for the Japanese round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).

The Lancer Evolution X Group N as a course car will have the job of running the course ahead of the competitors to check the road conditions in order for the race to go smooth. The course cars have some cool names: the Double Zero and the Zero. The Double Zero runs the course 30 minutes before the race starts and the Zero runs the course 15 minutes before the race starts.

The Lancer Evolution X Group N has various features developed through the collaboration between Motor Sport Division / Technical Development Department of Mitsubishi Motors and Ralliart Inc.

Exterior enhancements of the Lancer Evolution X Group N include: sump-guard, floor guard with fuel tank protection and mud flaps. A few safety features have been added to the cockpit: five-point safety harnesses for the crew with bucket seats and a competition steering wheel.

Being a course car the Lancer Evolution X Group N also has roof lights as well as a siren and loudspeaker to warn the spectators.

The Lancer Evolution X is expecting to get the Group N homologation from the Federation International de L'Automobile (FIA) next summer and will be competing in the WRC at the end of 2008 or in 2009.
