The Maserati GranTurismo Sport was unveiled yesterday during the opening of the 2012 Geneva auto show. In comparison to the standard Maserati GranTurismo, the new version of the grand tourer comes with several upgrades, which justify the 'Sport' moniker. To power the Sport version of the GranTurismo, Maserati uses the 4.7-litre V8 engine, which in this application, develops 460 hp (338 kW) and 520 Nm of torque. The engine of the GranTurismo Sport is coupled with an electro actuated gearbox with MC Shift technology, which is able to offer 100-ms shifting times. Thanks to this powertrain setup, the Sport GranTurismo is able to get from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.7 seconds and to reach a top speed of 300 km/h.

A true Sport version has to have an updated suspension system too. The new version of the GranTurismo is equipped with the Sport Skyhook system, which is an evolution of Maserati's continuous damping control system.

Maserati is able to ship the GranTurismo Sport with a ZF 6-speed automatic transmission too. In fact, if you live in the United States you'll have to get the ZF, since the electro actuated will not be available here.

Maserati's GranTurismo Sport comes with distinctive exterior styling, made possible with the help of a new front bumper, LED DRLs, and darkened taillights. The Sport sits on 20-inch wheels and it's equipped with 6-piston Brembo brake calipers at the front and 4-piston ones at the rear. For the interior of the GranTurismo Sport, Maserati developed a new set of seats, which increase the room for the rear passengers by 20 mm. Stepping in the GranTurismo Sport you’ll find yourself surrounded by Poltrona Frau leather, aluminum, and other expensive materials.

Maserati GranTurismo Sport's price and availability will be announced at a later date.
