Opel revives Wartburg

 »  »  »

In its strategy to minimize the effects of the current financial crisis, Opel (GM) is looking into bringing a new low-cost model line on the market. Apparently, the new model line will revive the Wartburg brand. The Wartburg cars were cheap, communist style vehicles, that were built in East Germany until the fall of Berlin wall. The Wartburg moniker comes from the castle with the same name that overlooks the Eisenach where the manufacturing plant was situated. Currently, this plant is building the new Opel Corsa and could very well build an additional, 7,000 Euros, Wartburg model.

Opel has confirmed that one of its plans is to revive the Wartburg brand, but also stated this is not the only option currently taken into consideration.

The new Wartburg model will be based on the Opel Corsa and will be a low-cost model to rival Renault's Logan.
