Range Rover Evoque Gets 9 Speed Gearbox

Range Rover announced today that the Evoque is going to be the world's first production vehicle to receive a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The new 9-speed automatic transmission was developed a couple of years ago by ZF, buy only now a carmaker has decided to use it in a production model. Apparently, Evoque's new nine-speed automatic gearbox is able to further reduce the car's fuel consumption and its CO2 emissions. So, the new 9-speed Evoque is going to be more efficient and less pollutant. At the same time, it will also offer improved response during acceleration, improved shift quality, drive and refinement. Or at least this is what Range Rover claims. The lowest ratio of the nine-speed transmission is lower than the one of the current 6-speed gearbox, which means it's going to improve the Evoque's off-road abilities.

The new gearbox is also 7.5 kg lighter than the 6-speed one.

Range Rover did not announce the price and availability of the 9 Speed gearbox version of the Evoque. However they do mention that it will have its world debut next week at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
