Saab 92 In WRC

 »  »  »

According to a recent rumor, Saab is looking to get into the World Rally Championship with a WRC version of the upcoming Saab 92. The new Saab 92 based rally car is expected to hit its first stage in the 2012 WRC season. Reportedly, Saab and Spyker officials (Saab is owned by Spyker now), have met with WRC representatives, with further talks been scheduled for the rally of France in October.

It seems that Saab is following the footsteps of Mini, which has already confirmed its WRC entry with the rally Countryman. The upcoming Saab 92 might get a new powertrain developed by BMW which could make it quite competitive in the world of rallying.

If we go on and speculate a bit, we could say the Saab 92 WRC rally car may get the same engine, transmission and other bits and pieces from the newly unveiled Mini Countryman WRC. If this will be the case, it means the Saab 92 WRC will have a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbo under its hood and front-wheel-drive.

We'll have more details on Saab's entry in the WRC as soon as they become available.
