Subaru announced today that Toyobaru model, which they developed in collaboration with Toyota, will be named BRZ. The Subaru BRZ gets its name from its Boxer engine, Rear-wheel drive and Zenith, which we're not really sure why is there. Subaru says that Zenith "embodies ultimate passion for the new sports car and confidence in its distinctive trademark and core technology". Thew new BRZ will have its world debut at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt auto show next month, under the name: "Subaru BRZ Prologue - BOXER Sports Car Architecture II".

Just like its brother, the Toyota FT-86 II, the Subaru BRZ will be a coupe sports car, powered by a 2.0 liter boxer engine, mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

The BRZ Subaru coupe will have a rear-wheel-drive, front engine architecture, and it's expected to deliver quite some thrills when it will go on sale.

We'll have more details on the BRZ as soon as the Japanese car maker makes them available
