OFFICIAL: Subaru shows the new Boxer sports car architecture. We're wondering is transparent cars will ever be a big hit. Subaru has presented at this year's Geneva motor show their new Boxer Sports Car architecture which they developed in collaboration with fellow Japanese carmaker Toyota. We'll get straight to the main specs of the Subaru's new Boxer sports car, which we'd really like to have a name for. They're future fun mobil will measure 4,200 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width and 1,270 mm in height and will have a wheelbase of 2,570 mm. The new Subaru Boxer model will return to the 2.0-ilter engine capacity, which Impreza fans came love all those years. Unfortunately, the new sports car will not be a turbo, instead it will have a naturally-aspirated four cylinder unit which will power the rear wheels only.

To get the matters straight, Subaru developed the boxer engine, while Toyota had the task of putting the RWD system into the sports car.

Some of the main characteristics of Subaru's, and Toyota's for that matter, new boxer powered sports car include lowered center of gravity, compact and lightweight body and short wheel base. These in fact, are all the ingredients one needs to get the perfect sideways action.

In case you're not familiar with the horizontally-opposed engine architecture, here are a few pointers. The boxer engine piston's opposing movements inherently counteract each other, which eliminates the need for a balance shaft. This in turn makes the engine less heavy and cancels out excess vibrations.

To conclude, if you're ever thinking of buying a front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car powered by a horizontally-opposed engine, Subaru's future model will be your only choice, since at this point, it's the only one mass produced.
