VW has announced today that the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup will compete at the 2010 Race Of Champions which will take place in Dusseldorf. The 275 hp Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup will be driven at the 2010 Race Of Champions by Sebastian Vettel (Formula 1 driver), Mick Doohan (motorcycle champion) and Tom Kristensen (Le Mans legend). All three of them will use the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup to win the shootout in the pandemonium of the Dusseldorf Football Arena.
The Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup is powered by bio natural gas and will probably be the only race car to use this fuel at the 2010 Race Of Champions.

The world’s most eco-conscious one make cup car and the best names in motorsport: the bio natural gas powered racing car of the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup will be fielded in the Race of Champions in Dusseldorf.
On 27 and 28 November 2010 Formula 1 heroes like Sebastian Vettel (Germany), motorcycle champions
of the calibre of Mick Doohan (Australia) or Le Mans legends of the likes of Tom Kristensen (Denmark) will also engage in duels with the near 275-hp Cup-Scirocco. Their aim: to finish the shootout in the pandemonium of the Düsseldorf Football Arena as the best of the best.
For the first time in 21 years and since the first showdown in the "Müllenbachschleife” of the Nürburgring back in 1989 the Race of Champions will be staged in Germany again. The fielding of the Cup-Scirocco also marks the debut of a vehicle with an alternative drive concept. Thanks to the use of bio natural gas as fuel the
two-litre engine emits 80 per cent less CO2 overall in the combined assessment of the race and logistics operations – compared with conventional racing petrol.

The list of top-class drivers who have announced their participation in the Race of Champions in Düsseldorf reads like the "Hall of Fame” of international motorsport. Among others, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Alain Prost (Formula 1), Sébastien Loeb (World Rally Championship), Mick Doohan (World Motorcycle Championship), Tom Kristensen (Le Mans 24 Hours), Andy Priaulx (World Touring Car Championship), Carl Edwards (NASCAR) and Travis Pastrana (Motocross) will run in the race. And the list of high-calibre racers keeps growing: even more
entries by motorsport stars are expected to be received by the time of the event at the end of November.
80 less CO2: bio natural gas celebrates RoC debut
As an alternative drive system, bio natural gas has proven its viability in Volkswagen motorsport commitments in the Scirocco R-Cup and at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The use of pure bio natural gas reduces emissions of environmentally harmful carbon dioxide by one fifth. Bio natural gas is a purely natural product. It is made in Germany primarily from biogenous waste materials. At the Race of Champions in Düsseldorf the Cup-Scirocco will be the only vehicle in the field to use an alternative drive concept. In 2010 the Scirocco R-Cup celebrated its much-noted inaugural season in which new sporting concepts in the form of the Pro, Junior and Legends Cup and spectacular races using the push-to-pass system were realised.
