Volkswagen and BYD announced today that they consider a partnership for the development of hybrids and electric vehicles. A team from the Chinese carmaker BYD (Build Your Dreams), led by Chairman of the Board of Management, Wang Chuanfu, paid an informational visit at Volkswagen Elektrotraktion Technology Centre in Isenbuttel. The Chinese took test drives in various Volkswagen vehicles including the Golf twinDrive and a new VW electric vehicle prototype.
Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board for Technical Development at Volkswagen, said BYD could be an important partner for expanding the German's carmaker activities in China.
At the end of the visit, the Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, Dr Martin Winterkorn and his Chinese counter part, Wang Chuanfu, signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the options for partnership in the area of hybrids and electric vehicles powered by lithium batteries.
