Today we have updated details regarding the engine Audi will use for the future generation 2012 S8. Previously it was though that the 2012 Audi S8 will hide under its luxurious exterior a V8 unit developing around 450 hp which will be mated to a double-clutch gearbox. However, this may not be enough to get on the same level as its competition. For instance, the 2011 Mercedes S63 AMG is powered by a 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine with an output of 571 hp and 900 Nm of torque. Even with the quattro four-wheel-drive system, a 450 hp 2012 S8 will not be a match for it, and Audi knows it.
Latest developments are indicating that the 2012 Audi S8 will get more than 500 hp from a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.
This engine comes from Bentley and might give the S8 a fighting chance against the S63 AMG.
Audi is expecting to bring the 2012 S8 on the United States market sometime next year. We'll have more details on the 2012 Audi S8 as soon as they're available.
