The 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet together with the 2012 911 Carrera S Cabrio have been unveiled today by the German carmaker. Both version of the 2012 Porsche 911 cabrio will be put on sale starting from March 3 next year. Even though it features a fabric roof, the new Carrera cabriolet, together with its S version, manages to keep the same roofline as the coupe version of the 2012 Porsche 911. Porsche gives the 2012 911 cabrio a new aluminum-steel body, together with a re-designed hood, made from a magnesium alloy. This helps keep the weight of the car down, which in turn improves its fuel consumption and handling.
Porsche says that the new 2012 911 convertible is lighter than its predecessors, thanks to various innovations in terms of design and manufacturing.
Apart from weighing less, the new 911 convertible also comes with several other novelties in comparison to its predecessors. For instance, it has a longer wheelbase and a wider front track. The 2012 Porsche 911 Cabrio also comes with a new electro-mechanical power steering, which is more precise and agile than before. The 2012 911 cabriolet also has shorter overhangs, which makes it more compact in nimble through the corners.
The 2012 Porsche 911 Cabrio is powered by a 3.4-litre boxer 6-cylinder engine, which outputs 350 hp (257 kW).
All the horsepowers go to the car's rear wheels via a 7-speed manual transmission. The more powerful 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet is powered by a 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine, with an output of 400 hp (294 kW). The 2012 Carrera S convertible is also equipped, as standard, with the seven-speed gearbox. Optionally, Porsche offers the PDK double-clutch transmission for both version of the 2012 911 cabrio.
In terms of safety, Porsche is offering, for the 911 Cabrio 2012, several standard and optional active control systems.
The 2012 Porsche 911 Cabrio price list for Europe starts at 100,532 Euros for the Carrera and at 114,931 Euros for the Carrera S. In the UK, the base 2012 911 Cabriolet version will cost you £79,947 GBP, while the Carrera S will leave you with £89,740 GBP in your pocket.
