Porsche revealed yesterday the all-wheel-drive versions of the new 911. The 2012 911 Carrera 4 and the Carrera 4S promise to be lighter, faster and more agile in comparison to their predecessors, thanks to the new Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system. In terms of design, the distinctive feature of the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 / 4S includes the 22-mm wider rear wheel arches. This is required by the 10-mm wider rear tires. The new 2013 Carrera 4S and Carrera 4 also feature a red light band that connects the two taillights. The AWD versions of the 2012 Porsche 911 are available as both a coupe and a cabrio. They promise to deliver 16% lower fuel consumption, as they are 65kg lighter than their predecessors.

Both models come with a seven-speed manual gearbox as standard. The seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) twin-clutch automatic transmission is an optional extra. The 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 is powered by the 3.4-litre 6-cylinder engine, which is good for 350 hp (257 kW). The 2012 Carrera 4 can get from nought to 62 mph in just 4.5 seconds (Cabriolet 4.7 sec) and it has a top speed of 177 mph (Cabriolet 175 mph). Porsche's official efficiency figures say that the 911 Carrera 4 coupe with the PDK gearbox offers 32.8 mpg (203 g/km CO2), while the cabriolet can do 32.5 mpg (205 g/km CO2).

For those of you looking for a faster AWD Porsche 911, the 2012 Carrera 4S is able to offer 400 hp (294 kW) with the help of a 3.8-litre flat-six engine. Porsche's official specifications of the 2012 Carrera 4S say it can get from zero to 62 mph in 4.1 seconds (Cabriolet 4.3 seconds) and that it can reach a top speed of 186 mph (Cabriolet 184 mph). Even with so much power, the new Porsche 911 2012 Carrera 4S (2012) is still able to offer decent efficiency figures. The PDK coupe is rated with 31.0mpg (215 g/km CO2) while the cabrio can offer 30.7 mpg (217 g/km CO2).

Porsche chose the 2012 Carrera 4S and Carrera 4 to introduce the new Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system across the 911 range. The PDK-equipped models also come with the Porsche Active Safe (PAS), which can help prevent front-end collisions. Some of the novelties available on the options list include the new sliding glass sunroof, and the Sport Chrono pack.

The standard equipment list of the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S includes a full leather upholstery, a 4.6-inch color touch-screen Porsche Communication Management with satellite navigation, automatic climate control, Bi-Xenon headlights, a universal audio interface offering MP3 connectivity and a three year warranty.

The 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 is priced in the UK from £77,924, while the 2012 Carrera 4S is going to cost you at least £87,959. The cabrio versions are priced from £86,583.00 and £96,619 respectively. The new AWD 911 is going to have its world debut at this year's Paris auto show in September, before going on sale this December.
