Toyota released the first image of the 2012 Yaris, called Vitz on some markets, together with its initial specs. The 2012 Toyota Yaris will have its debut at the Australian International Motor Show in July, before going on sale this fall. Toyota completely re-designed the exterior of the 2012 Yaris, while offering more interior space. With the 2012 Yaris, Toyota went for a more "European" design, giving it new headlights, front grille and bumper.

The 2012 Toyota Yaris has a 15mm lowered roof line, a 100mm longer body and a 50mm increased wheelbase. The increased dimensions of the 2012 Yaris will result in better stability during cornering and an increased passenger and luggage space.

The increased space will be most noticeable for the rear seat passengers.

The 2012 Toyota Yaris will come with UV-reducing glass in the front-door windows and a single windscreen wiper with an integrated washer nozzle.

At this point, Toyota did not release any specifications regarding the engine and transmission options offered by the 2012 Yaris.

UPDATE: Toyota just announced that the 2012 Yaris will be put on sale with a choice between three engines: a 1.0-litre VVT-i, a 1.33-litre dual VVT-i petrol, both petrol, and a 1.4-litre D-4D diesel. The equipment list of the 2012 Toyota Yaris will include the car maker's Touch & Go multimedia and connectivity system, which features a 6.1-inch display with touch screen technology.
