The first details of the future generation 2015 Alfa Romeo Spider have surfaced the web over the weekend. Apparently, the Italian carmaker plans to put the new Alfa Spider on sale in about two years’ time. The new Alfa Spider (2015) is going to be built on a Mazda MX5 chassis in Japan. The 2015 Alfa Spider was designed by a joint team from Italy and Japan, led by Marco Tencone. Marco Tencone was responsible for designing the new Maserati Quattroporte and the Ghibli. The styling of the 2015 Alfa Romeo Spider is inspired by a few the carmaker's classic models, which have received a modern interpretation. However, the new Spider is not going to have a retro look. The 2015 Alfa Spider is going to be equipped with conventional headlights, each of them with five LED DRLs, and an indicator.

Apparently, the 2015 Alfa Spider is going to share the windscreen, most of the front structure, the engine compartments and the axles with the MX5. According to our sources, the future Alfa Spider (2015) is going to be 1.7 m wide, a bit longer than the MX5 and it's going to weight between 1,000 and 1,100 kg.

To power the new Alfa Spider, the carmaker chose a 1.4-liter TB MultiAir turbocharged engine that will be available in two power levels: 119bhp and 168bhp. The engine will transfer its power to the wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

We'll have more details about the 2015 Alfa Romeo Spider as soon as it's available.
