Alpina launched today at the Frankfurt auto show the new D5 Biturbo, which is based on the new BMW 5 Series diesel. The Alpina D5 Biturbo BMW 5 Series is powered by the 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder engine, which was upgraded to output 257 kW / 350 hp between 4000 and 4200 rpm. The engine of the Alpina D5 Biturbo is mated to a 8-speed Sport-Automatic ZF 8HP70 SWITCH-TRONIC transmission. In terms of performance, Alpina’s new D5 Biturbo is able to accelerate from 0 to 72 mph (100 km/h) in 5.2 seconds and to reach a top speed of 270 km/h. The fuel consumption of the vehicle is rated at 7.5 l/100 km in the city, 5.5 l/100 km on the highway and at 6.2 l/100 km on the combined cycle. Alpina rates the CO2 emissions of their new D5 Biturbo 5 Series Bimmer at 165 g/km.

The new transmission of the Alpina D5 Biturbo offers three driving modes, automatic, sport and manual, together with an adapted version of the BMW's ECO PRO Mode, which reduces the car's fuel consumption and emissions.

Apart from the extra power, the Alpina D5 Biturbo also comes with a new aerodynamics package, which can be installed on both sedan and the Touring version of the new BMW 5 series. The D5 Biturbo's body kit includes a rear spoiler, a front apron, and a rear diffuser.

The equipment list of the Alpina D5 Biturbo includes Xenon headlamps, Park Distance Control, a leather interior, adjustable sport seats, an LCD and various wood and leather styling accents.

Alpina equips the D5 Biturbo with 20 inch wheels, and electronically-adjustable dampers. The price of the new D5 Biturbo will be announced at a later date.
