BMW X3M X35is

A new rumor surfaced last night, saying that the German carmaker is working on two performance versions of its X3 - the BMW X3M and the BMW X35is. Apart from the BMW X3M and the BMW X35is, the same sources also confirm once more that the X4 will also become a reality.

The details of a BMW X35is are obvious. The engine of the BMW X35is will be the 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder which outputs 322 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. The engine of the BMW X35is will probably be coupled with the 7-speed double clutch automatic transmission or a more fun-driving-oriented 6-speed manual gearbox. The top speed of the BMW X35is will be limited to 250 km/h and the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time will be around the 5 seconds mark.

The details of the BMW X3M are actually a bit fuzzy at the moment. The new M engine, the one on the X5M and X6M is probably to big and to powerful to put on a smaller BMW X3M. The 555 hp output of that monster would turn the X3M in quite a beast. However, the more logical choice would be the engine on the upcoming 1 Series M Coupe, but the exact details of that unit haven't been confirmed either. We could speculate that the BMW X3M will have the same 3.0-liter twin turbocharged six cylinder as the X35is, but with slightly more power. The output of the BMW X3M could go to 350 hp and the performance figures will be: top speed - 250 km/h, 0to 100 km/h in around 5 seconds.

The BMW X3M and the BMW X35is will have an improved suspension and chassis, bigger brakes, and probably new aerodynamics. the price tag will also be higher.
