BMW Z2 gets green light

According to the German magazine AutoBild the BMW Z2 gets green light and will probably hit the showroom floor sometime in 2013. The BMW Z2 will be a front engine two-seater, weighing around 1,000 kg, and will come in both roadster and coupe body styles.

The BMW Z2 will be developed under the company's Project i program and will employ various cost effective and energy efficient technologies. The carmaker plans to offer three engines for the BMW Z2: an electric motor with lithium-ion batteries, a Hybrid Drive with a small combustion engine, or a 1.6-liter turbo gasoline direct injection engine developing around 200 hp.

The BMW Z2 price for the base model will be around the 30,000 Euros mark, but the electric version could go as high as 50,000 Euros, which pretty expensive. The extra cost of the electric BMW Z2 is generated by the lithium-ion battery pack.
