GM Daewoo Press Release:

GM Daewoo Launches Gentra X

Seoul , Korea – GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) today launched the successor to the Kalos hatchback. Dubbed the Gentra X, the new model derives its name from the word “eXtreme.” It is the first member of the next generation of sportier, younger and more stylish

GM Daewoo vehicles. The Gentra X goes on sale in Korea starting October 15.

“With the Gentra sedan, we proved that GM Daewoo could offer much more than one would expect of a conventional small car,” said Michael Grimaldi , President and CEO of GM Daewoo . “The Gentra X hatchback goes one step further, making it the smart choice for those who want an economical yet stylish and fun-to-drive vehicle.”

The Gentra X features a striking exterior . The bold front styling is characterized by a trendy wide chrome-rimmed grille that is accentuated by a prominent air inlet. The dynamic detailing includes large curved clear-glass headlamps and fog lamps that project like spotlights from the lower part of the bumper. The hood follows the lines of the radiator grille. Eye-catching contours, which flow from the hood to the A-pillar, complete the sporty look. T he back of the car is dominated by a solid bumpe r and round taillamps .

The Gentra X has grown slightly and is four

centimeters longer than its predecessor. Its segment-leading overall height of 1,505 millimeters yields a high seating position that provides passengers a better view of the road ahead .

Inside, the Gentra X clearly breaks away from the typical small car. Its modern high-quality instrument panel is divided into four chrome-trimmed controls and a center console with striking air vents, a fully integrated audio unit, and large user-friendly air-conditioning dials. The smooth surfaces and the soft finish of both the instrument panel and the upper half of the door

panel are pleasant to the touch. The door design features convenient gooseneck handles.

The Gentra X is powered by a new 1.2-liter DOHC engine that produces maximum output of 85 ps at 6,200 rpm and maximum torque of 11.5 kg∙m at 4,200 rpm. The powerful new engine’s fuel efficiency of 17.5 km/ℓ with a manual transmission and 15.4 km/ℓ with an automatic transmission tops its predecessor . Despite the fact that performance has improved by 14 ps, the new engine consumes less fuel, achieving another kilometer per liter of efficiency. A new 1.6-liter engine will be available starting next year.

The Gentra X offers strong passenger protection .

Over 40 percent of its passenger cell is made of high-strength steel . For enhanced side protection, the B-pillar is made of three steel plates of different thicknesses. The plates are welded together so that in the event of a side impact, the B-pillar moves like a pendulum rather than being folded and protruding into the passenger compartment.

Providing additional safety are dual front air bags, seat-belt pretensioners with load limiters, knee bolsters and a collapsible steering wheel. The passenger’s seat front air bag comes standard in all Gentra X trim levels, which is unique among small cars sold in Korea.

T he Gentra X has a number of amenities that are generally found in larger, higher-priced vehicles. T hese include a driver’s seat armrest, intermittent wipers , seat-belt height adjusters , and p ower door locks and power windows .

The Gentra X with a 1.2-liter engine and manual transmission comes in two trim levels. The SE retails for KRW 8.28 million and the SX for KRW 8.49 million.
