The De Tomaso is alive again as their new model, the SLC, was unveiled in Rome recently. This video shows the revealing ceremony of the new De Tomaso SLC, before the car's world premiere which will take place in Geneva next month. The De Tomaso SLC, short for Sport Luxury Car, is a four-door saloon, which will be offered with a choice between three engines: an entry level 250 hp diesel unit, a V6 with 300 hp and a 5.0-liter V8 engine developing 500 hp. The main competitor for the new De Tomaso SLC seems to be the BMW 5 Series GT.
At this point, the new SLC is still in a concept phase, but the company says the production version De Tomaso SLC price list will start at around 85,000 EUR.
Styled by Pininfarina, the De Tomaso SLC aims to continue the history of the brand, which started back in 1959, in Modena, Italy. De Tomaso was founded by Argentinean Alejandro de Tomaso and was famous for such models as the Mangusta and the Pantera - sportcars that were quite the thing back in the 70s, 80s and early 90s. De Tomaso even competed in Formula 1 in the 1960s.
The De Tomaso SLC is expected to be produced in around 3,000 units per year, so it will be quite an exclusive vehicle. We're wondering how will it compare to its main rivals.
