Land Rover revealed today at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt auto show the DC100 Concept, which previews the future generation of the Defender. Not only that the Land Rover DC100 preview the future Defender, but it's also inspired by the iconic off-road vehicle. Land Rover's DC100 concept comes with three seats in the front, and promises to offer the same flexibility, adaptability and configurability for which the model became known for. The Land Rover DC100 is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, mated to a 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox and an with Intelligent Start/Stop system. The DC100 comes with Torque Vectoring, which maximizes stability, traction and handling, and Driveline Disconnect which disconnects the rear wheels when the extra traction is not required.
Land Rover equipped the DC100 with an air suspension which offers 12.6 inches of adjustment, the company's acclaimed Terrain Response system, which features High-Definition cameras used for analyzing the ground ahead. The new DC100 4x4 is able to do a virtual 3D visualization of the ground ahead thanks to its Terrain-i mapper, or Intelligent Terrain Mapping system. The Terrain-i is able to suggest alternative routes based on the surface ahead of the off-roader.
Another innovations showcased by the Land Rover DC100 is its Wade Aid sonar based system, which is
able to tell the driver how deep is the water ahead of the vehicle. The wheels of the DC100 can deploy spikes automatically, in case extra traction is needed. The Land Rover DC100 also comes with an Adventure Key, which uses RFID technology, that can be embedded in any impact or water resistant object. Finally, Land Rover also gave the DC100 a Park Assist system for when you come home tired, after an off-road adventure.
When designing the DC100, Land Rover aimed for simplicity, strength and authenticity. At the interior, which is made from sustainable materials, the DC100 features a unique multifunctional removable touch screen. It combines the functions of an instrument panel with an intuitive touch screen interface, which is able to offer complete telematics data.
