Mercedes revealed today the high-performance GLA45 AMG, which is going to have its world debut next week at the 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, USA. The Mercedes GLA45 AMG is powered by the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that develops 265 kW (360 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 450 Nm of torque between 2,250 rpm and 5,000 rpm. With this engine, the GLA45 AMG is able to accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.8 seconds and to reach an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Mercedes' official specifications say that the new GLS 45 AMG is able to offer a fuel economy of 7.5 l/100 km (NEDC combined) / 37.6 mpg UK and a 175 g/km CO2 emissions level. Mercedes equips the AMG version of the GLS class with the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system and the SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission.
The GLA45 AMG's engine is equipped with spray-guided direct petrol injection with piezo injectors, multiple fuel injection, multiple spark ignition.
The GLA45 AMG is also equipped with an ECO start/stop function, NANOSLIDE cylinder liner technology, forged pistons with friction-optimized piston rings, and an air-to-water intercooling system. Its twin-scroll turbocharger generates 1.8 bar of pressure. The Mercedes GLS45 is also equipped with a sport exhaust system with flaps.
The Mercedes GLS45's gearbox offers several driving modes including the M manual mode, the S sport mode, and the C Controlled Efficiency mode. There's also a RACE START function and the Momentary M mode, also seen on the SLS AMG Black Series. The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) of the GLA45 offers three modes: ON, Handling Mode and OFF.
For the GLS45, Mercedes is offering a sports suspension, speed-sensitive sports steering, speed-dependent power assist, high-performance brakes with cross-drilled discs, and a special set of wheels. Mercedes equips the GLS45 with a distinctive body kit that includes a front splitter and apron, a rear spoiler, carbon fiber side mirror casings, and a rear spoiler. The front splitter comes in carbon too, alongside the side sill panel insert and the rear apron trim. There's also a rear diffuser. Optionally, you can equip your GLA45 AMG with the night package, which includes privacy windows, black anodized waistline trim strip, silver chrome radiator grille louvers; high-gloss black front splitter, exterior mirrors, side sill panel insert and rear apron trim, and two tailpipes with black rectangular trim.
For the interior of the GLA45 AMG, Mercedes is offering sport seats covered in ARTICO leather, a 3-spoke Nappa leather multifunction sports steering wheel, and a special instrument cluster with 2-tube design and central color display. Optionally, you can get your GLS45 AMG with a performance steering wheel and seats, and carbon trim parts.
The Mercedes GLA45 AMG Edition 1 comes with a few distinctive features that include a high-gloss black body kit, and various interior upgrades.
The Mercedes GLA45 AMG's price is going to be announced at a later date. In Europe, the GLS45 AMG will go on sale in March and in the United States in the fall.
