Mercedes has confirmed today that it buys the Brawn GP team which has won this year's Formula One championship. This year's constructor's champion from Formula One will be renamed Mercedes Grand Prix and 75% of it will be owned by Mercedes. The other 24.9% will continue to be owned by Ross Brawn and Nick Fry. However, Mercedes will not own all the 75% of the teams stake, with Aabar Investments from Abu Dhabi owning 30%.
As far as McLaren goes, the German carmaker will continue to provide it with engines for at least another 5 years, up until 2015.
Mercedes CEO, Dieter Zetzche and the company's motorsport boss, Norbert Haug, are expected to
release further details of the deal in a press conference, later in the day.
According to various sources, the two drivers of the Mercedes Grand Prix for the next season will be Nick Heidfeld and Nico Rosberg. This means Jenson Button will no longer compete for the German company. However, various rumors say he's in talks with McLaren for the next season. Ross Brawn will remain the team's principal.
