British sources are reporting that the McLaren MP4 Spider is in the works, but the details of the new model are scarce. The company is building a new facility and in the plans of the new factory there's a mention regarding the "Webasto RHT Sub Assembly". RHT in the name could mean retractable hard-top which in turn means there will be a McLaren MP4 Spider which will be fitted with this system.
When asked by Autocar about this matter, McLaren said that the plan in question has been suspended. Regarding Webasto, they said it's only one of several potential suppliers.
The hard-top of the McLaren MP4 Spider should be lightweight, so it's easy to speculate that it will be built from carbon fiber.
