Some of today's rumors say that Daimler is planning to bring on the market the Mercedes SLS AMG eDrive - an electric version of their new supercar - by year 2012. The 2012 Mercedes SLS AMG eDrive is currently under development and its details are scarce at the moment. Apparently, the 2012 Mercedes SLS AMG eDrive will have a similar powertrain as the newly unveiled Audi eTron. This means it will be powered by four electric motors, one for each wheel. The 2012 Mercedes SLS AMG eDrive will develop around 530 hp and 880 Nm of torque. To match the performance numbers of the standard petrol model, the electric 2012 Mercedes SLS AMG eDrive will have to be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds and have a top speed of just under 300 km/h.
The electric Audi will come on the market around the same period of time as the rumored 2012 Mercedes SLS AMG eDrive, which means they will compete on the same market segment.
We'll have more details on the electric Merc as soon as the company makes it official.
