Nissan DeltaWing Crashes In Atlanta

 »  »  »

Today, during testing for the 15th annual Petit Le Mans, Gunnar Jeannette was involved in a huge crash while driving the Nissan DeltaWing. Jeannette just passed a green Porsche GTC, when the driver of the German race car hit him and flipped him over. Fortunately, the Nissan DeltaWing rolled back on its wheels and the driver escaped unharmed. The DeltaWing's data acquisition system registered 7Gs during the impact. In comparison, a fighter pilot can manage a maximum of 8Gs or 9Gs, which happen only during difficult maneuvers. After the initial impact, the driver was scraping the track with his helmet. The car then hit the wall and rolled back. Before the unfortunate event, the Nissan DeltaWing had set a fastest time of 1 minute, 13.686 seconds for the 2.54-mile Road Atlanta circuit.
