DeltaWing Racing Cars LLC, All American Racers and the Highcroft Racing announced today they will present their DeltaWing Concept at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. Project 56, as their group is called, brings together the design, manufacturing capabilities and the racing experience of 1967 Le Mans winner Dan Gurney. Dr. Don Panoz, the founder of the American Le Mans Series also joined forces with this team for the DeltaWing Concept.

The DeltaWing Concept will be the 56th race car on the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans grid - a place reserved for experimental vehicles.

The DeltaWing Concept is optimized for reducing fuel consumption, without making any compromise

when it comes to performance. The DeltaWing Concept is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that outputs 300 hp. This is just half of what its competitors can do. However, the DeltaWing weighs just 475 kg and has a Cd 0.24 drag coefficient. The DeltaWing managed to create downforce for the concept without the use of the traditional wings. Instead, they modeled the underbody to create as much downforce as possible.

We'll have more details and images of the DeltaWing Concept as soon as they're available.
