Nissan announced that it's been selected as the exclusive provider for the NYC taxi fleet. Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that the Nissan NV200 will be the New York City taxi of the future. The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) says the Nissan NV200 will enter NYC service from late 2013. Nissan and their NV200 taxi were chosen after a two year trial period, during which Ford and Karsan, a Turkish vehicle manufacturer, were also take into consideration.

The Nissan NV200 Taxi is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine equipped with various fuel saving technologies, as well as CO2 emissions reduction systems. Nissan says their NV200 offers more passenger and luggage space than current taxies. It comes with a 'low-annoyance' horn, sliding

doors, independently controlled rear air conditioning with various filters for purifying the air and an environmentally friendly seat fabric. The equipment list of Nissan's NV200 taxi also includes a transparent roof panel, a six-way adjustable driver's seat, and navigation and telematics systems.

In terms of safety, the NV200 taxi features the traction control and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) systems, several airbags, and lights that alert other motorists that the doors are going to open.



Nissan prices the NV200 Taxi from 29,000 USD.
