Nissan unveiled today the new generation 2013 Altima mid-size sedan in New York. Even though its price has not been announced today, the Japanese carmaker mentions that the new Altima (2013) will go on sale this summer. The 2013 Nissan Altima will be offered with a choice between two engines and no less than seven trim levels. The entry level Altima (2013) is powered by a 2.5-liter 16-valve 4-cylinder engine, which develops 182 hp (est.) and 180 lb-ft of torque. The more powerful version of the 2013 Altima has a 3.5-liter 24-valve DOHC V6 unit, which is good for 270 hp (est.) and 258 lb-ft of torque. The new Altima benefits from the latest generation Xtronic CVT transmission, which comes with a 40% reduction in friction, which in turn reduces the car's fuel consumption.
The 2013 Nissan Altima 2.5 is rated with a 27 mpg city / 38 mpg highway / 31 mpg combined fuel economy, while the V6 version is rated with a 22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, 25 mpg combined fuel consumption.
The exterior and interior design of the Nissan Altima has been completely modified for the 2013 version. Its front fascia has been completely re-modeled, and it now features new headlights, a new grille, and a new bumper. At the rear, the 2013 Altima shows re-styled taillights, and a slightly modified bumper.
Overall, the new Altima (2013) has a more streamlined designed, which benefits from the brand's new "face". The interior of the new mid-size sedan looks much more elegant than before. Nissan says it has seats inspired by outer space technology and a 3D-effect information display.
In terms of safety, Nissan equipped the 2013 Altima with a RearView Monitor camera, Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Moving Object Detection (MOD).
