The latest development in Smartphone technology comes from one of the least expected sources. Nissan announced today the development of the first self-healing iPhone case, which uses their self-healing paint finish. The Nissan Scratch Shield iPhone case uses a special paint, which has the capacity of mending superficial scratches. On the downside, if you choose Nissan's self-healing iPhone case, you'll have to give up high gloss finish of the original one. But at the same time, you'll an easier-to-grip Smartphone, which will slip through your fingers a little less frequently.

The Nissan self-healing iPhone case is made from ABS plastic, which is widely used in the automotive industry.

Aftermarket specialists also use it for building their body kits.

Nissan's Scratch Shield iPhone case was developed in collaboration with University of Tokyo and Advanced Softmaterials Inc. The same technology is currently used on a range of Nissan vehicles, including the 350Z and the Murano. Nissan also uses it for Infiniti models too.

Currently, Nissan is testing their new self-healing casing, but of the results are promising, they will put it into mass production. The price of the case has not been announced yet.

If it will become commercially available, the self-healing case will be available for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Nissan says that a small scratch can go away in as little as an hour. However, deeper ones can take as much as a week to heal.
