Porsche has just revealed the new 911 Type 991 RSR race car, which is the new version of the 911 GT3 RSR (Type 997). The world premiere of the new Porsche 911 Type 991 RSR is going to take place at the World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Silverstone, 13-14 April, 2013. The new Porsche 911 GT3 RSR (Type 991) is powered by a 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine that's mounted in the rear, which is good for 460 hp. Porsche says that the new 911 RSR (2013) comes with a lightweight design and sophisticated aerodynamics. It also has a special livery that celebrates 50 years of the 911. In comparison to the previous version of the 911 RSR, the Type 991 has a 100-mm longer wheelbase. It also comes with a new wishbone front suspension that replaces the McPherson struts used in the 911 GT3 RSR.

The Porsche 911 Type 991 RSR is equipped with a newly developed lightweight racing transmission with six gears and steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. Porsche's Type 991 RSR comes with a more balanced weight distribution and a lower center of gravity in comparison to the Type 997. To accomplish this, Porsche builds the front and rear wheel housings, front and rear lids, doors, underbody, wheel arches, rear wing, dashboard and center console 911 Type 991 RSR out of carbon fiber. The RSR's windows are made from polycarbonate. The race car comes with a lightweight lithium-ion battery.

Other distinctive visual features of the Porsche 911 Type 991 RSR include the flared wheel arches, and the front cooling air intakes. The radiator of the racer is now in the center of its nose, and its air conditioning system has been improved.
