A new video surfaced the web recently, announcing a race between historic American muscle and present Italian elegance: a 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 vs a Ferrari 458 Italia. It's a drag race of course, but not just any drag race. There are 400,000 USD at stake here. Dan Bilzeria, the owner of the 1965 Shelby Cobra 427, bet Tom Goldstein, with his Ferrari 458 Italia, that he can take him in the quarter mile. This single drag race is worth 800,000 USD!
Let's check out the numbers a bit to see if we can get a winner. The 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 is powered by a 427 cu in (7.0-liter) V8 engine developing 409 hp at 5600 rpm and 626 Nm of torque at 2800 rpm. The top speed is rated at around 265.5 km/h (165.0 mph).
The 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of the Shelby Cobra 427 is rated at approximately 4.5 seconds.
In the opposite corner, the Ferrari 458 Italia has a 5.0 liter V8 engine with an output of 570 hp at 9000 rpm and 540 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm. with a 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of 3.4 seconds, the 458 Italia can reach a top speed of 325 km/h.
It looks like the Shelby Cobra might lose the battle, but we'll have to wait and see the outcome of the race.
