Volkswagen XL Sport With Ducati Superleggera V2 Engine

 »  »  »

Volkswagen presented tonight, before the grand opening of the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the XL concept. The Volkswagen XL Sport is based on the extremely efficient VW XL1, but it is powered by a Ducati Superleggera V2 engine. In case you're not familiar with Ducati's powertrain, we have to mention that it is the world's most powerful two-cylinder engine. Ducati's engine develops 147 kW / 200 PS and 134 Nm of torque. It can also rev up to 11,000 rpm! According to Volkswagen, the XL Sport has more efficient aerodynamics than any other sports car. We'd like to say that this is a rather bold claim... VW also says that the 200 PS engine from Ducati can take the XL Sport up to a top speed of 270 km/h and that it can accelerate it from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.7 seconds. VW's XL Sport weighs just 890 kg, so these "official" performance figures are quite reasonable.

Here are all the specifications of the Volkswagen XL Sport. It looks cool, it's efficient, probably, and it has decent levels of performance. But that's not the point. Imagine driving a car, the revs up to 11,000 rpm. And now imagine you're not in a Formula 1 car, but you're driving to work in the morning, on public streets...
