2012 Honda Insight Facelift

Honda released today the first image of the 2012 Insight facelift, which promises to have lower CO2 emissions and increased quality. The world debut of the 2012 Honda Insight facelift will take place at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show (IAA) this September. The Japanese car manufacturer did not announce the date when the facelifted Insight will go on sale, nor its price.

In terms of design, not much has changed. Apart from a new front grille, a slimmer rear spoiler and re-styled tailgate garnish, the 2012 Insight look pretty much the same as its predecessor. Oh yes, Honda also reduced the size the wiper motor.

The major novelty brought by the 2012 Honda Insight comes in the efficiency department,

as the new generation model emits only 96g/km of CO2. This means it qualifies for exemption from the London Congestion Charge. If you buy a 2012 Insight and live in the UK, you won't pay the annual road tax, since the facelifted model falls into the lowest VED band. The new generation model also falls in one of the lowest groups for Benefit in Kind taxation.

Honda managed to reduce the CO2 emissions of the 2012 Insight by enhancing its aerodynamics and powertrain efficiency. They reduce the internal friction of the powertrain, and modified the CVT

gearbox and the Insight's air conditioning systems. All these changes also resulted in a lower fuel consumption.

To improve the ride comfort and handling of the 2012 Honda Insight, the engineers modified several components of the hybrid, including its suspension system and engine. Honda also says it has increased the quality of the Insight's interior.

We'll have all the details of the 2012 Honda Insight Facelift at the time of its premiere next month.
