Various sources are reporting today that the new generation 2012 Mercedes SLK55 AMG will have its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show this fall. Soon after, the 2012 SLK55 AMG will go on sale on various markets, but its price is not known at this moment. As expected, Mercedes will power the 2012 SLK55 AMG with a version of the new 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine. However, the unit in the SLK55 AMG will not be as powerful as the versions equipping the CLS63 and the E63. According to our sources, the 2012 AMG SLK55 will deliver 420 hp, which is around 70 hp more than the previous generation of the model. Even though the 5.5-liter engine can pack a more serious punch, 420 hp is more than enough for a car the size of AMG's 2012 SLK Class.

Mercedes did not go for power only when developing the new SLK AMG. Apparently, the 2012 model will be 30% more efficient than its predecessor, with a CO2 emissions level of 200 g/km. The 2012 Mercedes SLK55 AMG will come equipped with Start / Stop technology, and a new system that it will make it run on 4 cylinders only, when the extra power is not required.

If you're looking for a performance version of the 2012 Mercedes SLK, but want a diesel engine, Daimler will offer the SLK250 CDI.

The 2012 Mercedes SLK250 CDI will hide under bonnet a 2.1-liter turbodiesel engine developing 204 hp.

We'll have more details on the 2012 SLK55 AMG as soon as they come our way.
