Mercedes announced today new diesel version of the 2012 SLK Class - the 250 CDI. The 2012 Mercedes SLK 250 CDI is powered by a 2143 cc four-cylinder diesel engine developing 150 kW (204 hp) and 500 Nm of torque. With this new powerplant under its hood, the 2012 SLK is able to get from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.7 seconds and it's able to reach a top speed of 243 km/h. Mercedes also mentions that the SLK 250CDI is able to get from 80 to 120 km/h in 4.3 seconds. We're not really sure why do they need to tell us this.

Mercedes says that the new SLK 250 CDI is able to offer a fuel economy of up to 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers in the NEDC combined cycle, and a 128 g/km CO2 emissions level.

A diesel roadster is not exactly our thing, since the engine tends to be on the noisy side when the top is down, but the Mercedes SLK 250 CDI does have some good credentials, on paper.

The engine of the SLK 250 CDI Merc is mated to Daimler's 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. Mercedes says that the new SLK diesel will also be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox in the near future.

Carrying on to the technical part, the SLK 250 CDI's engine features fourth-generation common-rail injection with a rail pressure of 2000 bar and precise injection timing and two-stage turbocharging. For a lower fuel consumption, the 2012 SLK diesel comes with a start/stop system as standard.

The Mercedes SLK 250 CDI features the company's new panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL and offers an optional Dynamic Handling package with the Direct-Steer system and the Torque Vectoring Brake system.

The Mercedes SLK 250 CDI price list starts at € 41,828.50 EUR, including VAT, and Daimler says it will put it on sale from September 13th, 2011.
