Only a few weeks after Acura revealed the concept of the 2013 RDX, we already have the production vehicle. The 2013 Acura RDX was premiered today at the 2012 Chicago Auto show, and it will go on sale this spring. Its price list has not been announced yet. The production version of the RDX looks basically identical to the concept unveiled in Detroit last month. The prototype's specifications have also been transferred to the production car.
This means that the 2013 Acura RDX five-passenger crossover SUV features a newly developed engine, transmission and all-wheel-drive system. The 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which has an output of 273 hp, replaces the previous 2.3-liter unit.
The engine is coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a lock-up torque converter. With this powertrain, the FWD version of the 2013 RDX offers a 20/28 mpg fuel economy, while the AWD models is rated with a 19/27 mpg fuel consumption (city/highway).
To improve the handling and comfort of the 2013 RDX, Acura uses a MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension design, coupled with a longer wheelbase and a lower center of gravity. Two of the innovations brought by the new Acura RDX 2013 include Amplitude Reactive Dampers and a new Motion Adaptive Electric Power Steering.
The 2013 Acura RDX comes with a long list of safety systems, including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist and several airbags. Even though the new RDX has not been tested yet, Acura believes it will achieve top crash safety ratings from both the NHTSA and IIHS.
