The 2013 Acura RDX concept had its world debut this week at the Detroit auto show, previewing the next generation model, which will go on sale this spring. The Acura RDX is a 5-seat crossover SUV, equipped with an all-wheel-drive system. For the 2013 RDX, Acura has developed a new 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which has an output of 273 hp. This is 33 hp more than the current version of the model. Although it offers more power, the 2013 Acura RDX will also get decent mileage.
To improve the fuel economy of the 2013 RDX, Acura has equipped its 6-speed automatic transmission version with a new lock-up torque converter and a lighter AWD system. The 2013 RDX is rated at 20 mpg in the city and at 28 mpg on the highway.
Its fuel consumption on the combined cycle has not been announced yet. The front-wheel-drive version of the 2013 RDX will offer the best fuel economy.
In comparison to the current generation model, the 2013 Acura RDX has a longer wheelbase and a wider track. This improves its stability and increases its cornering speeds. Also for better handling, Acura equips the 2013 RDX with Amplitude Reactive Dampers and a new motion adaptive electronic power steering system.
At the exterior, the 2013 RDX shows various re-designed parts, which create a more sculpted look and an overall more pleasant appearance. The materials used for its interior have been improved and Acura's Active Sound Control team took special care in making the cabin of the 2013 RDX as quiet as possible. The new RDX promises more passenger room, increased cargo space and a power rear tailgate.
The equipment list of the Acura RDX 2013 will include Pandora internet radio with the SMS function, keyless access, a Start button, the AcuraLink Satellite Communication System and a Navigation System with Voice Recognition. Real-time traffic and weather information will be provided inside the cabin and the driver will also benefit from a Rerouting system. The 2013 RDX will also benefit from a 60GB hard disk drive (HDD) for storing satellite navigation information and music.
