Acura RLX Concept

The Acura RLX Concept had its world debut at the 2012 New York International Auto Show, and it will be launched on the market at the beginning of next year. The RLX Concept previews Acura's flagship sedan and it will be equipped with the company's latest technology. To power the RLX, Acura chose a 3.5L direct-injected VTEC V6 engine, which outputs 370 hp and promises the same levels of performance as a V8. The engine of the Acura RLX will sends its ponies to the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD all-wheel-drive system via a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT). This setup ensures that Acura's RLX will offer a fuel economy of 30 mpg in all driving environments (city/highway/combined). The Acura RLX will also be put on sale with a 310 hp engine and a front-wheel-drive system.

This version of the RLX will come equipped with the Precision All Wheel Steer system.

To get an idea about the size of the RLX, it's about the same length as the current Acura RL, but with a two-inch longer wheelbase and two-inch shorter front overhang. The RLX sits on large 20-inch forged aluminum wheels and comes with LED headlights.

Some of the technical highlights of the Acura RLX include its Amplitude Reactive Dampers, its Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system and its Variable Gear Ratio (VGR) steering.

The Sport-Hybrid SH-AWD (Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive) is a very interesting bit of kit. It uses an electric motor mounted in the transmission, which can generate negative or positive torque. The torque is sent to the rear wheels while cornering, to improve stability and to increase the cornering speeds.

In terms of safety, the Acura RLX will offer all the systems you would expect from a present day vehicle. This is also the case when it comes to in-car entertainment and connectivity.

The Acura RLX's price and availability will be announced at a later date.
