| 5 Millionth BMW 5 Series | |||||
| BMW announced that today it has built the 5 Millionth BMW 5 Series in its 5 generations history. The 5 Millionth BMW 5 Series is a BMW 530d sedan in a metallic Carbon Black finish.
The history of the BMW 5 Series began in 1972 when the first generation was presented at the International Automobile Exhibition in Frankfurt - immediately after the conclusion of the Olympic Games and the completion of the BMW skyscraper. This was also the first time BMW used their coding of the models: the first digit was for the model, the second and third for the engine and the engine capacity. | launched in the summer of 1981 and went on to be sold in 722,328 units.
The third generation of the 5 Series saw the light of day in January 1988, with the forth following in 1995. The previous version of the BMW 5 Series sold in 1,470,757 units. |
