The BMW 1 Series M safety car for MotoGP has been unveiled today, with the German car maker releasing a huge image gallery and its details. Apart from the new 1 Series M safety car, BMW is also offering other high-performance vehicles to be used by the Dorna Sports management team and IRTA officials. BMW's 1 Series M safety car will enter active duty on 19th March, before the road going model goes on sale in late April.

The engine and drive train of the safety car are exactly the same as in the street version of the BMW 1 Series M. However, some modifications are necessary. The safety car version comes with a weight saving fiber-reinforced bonnet with additional large air vents, polycarbonate side and rear windows and a lightweight titanium race

exhaust system. The aerodynamics have also been modified. The BMW 1 Series M safety car features a discreet boot lid spoiler lip, an adjustable rear wing and a new front apron with Air Curtains, new air ducting and an additional splitter.

At the interior, BMW fitted the 1 Series M safety car with rollover cage bolted behind the B-pillar, two racing bucket seats with 6-point safety belts, an M steering wheel in Alcantara and a fire extinguisher. The rear seats have been removed.

For better handling, the safety car features a new suspension system, an adjustable race track set-up with a sports-tuned chassis and independently adjustable dampers. The brakes of the standard 1 Series M coupe are replaced with a six-piston fixed-caliper racing brake system.
