In the latest episode of Fifth Gear, TV presenter and racecar driver Tiff Needell, together with British rally champion Mark Higgins, put two of the moment's hottest hatches against each other. The comparison test between the BMW 1 Series M and the Audi RS3 is done on the racetrack, where the two high performance models have to do a timed lap. The 1 Series M Bimmer and the RS3 have similar power outputs, but you have to use different techniques when driving them. The BMW 1 Series M sends all its 335 hp to the rear wheels, while the Audi RS3 spreads its 340 hp across all four wheels.
On paper, the RS3 is faster than the BMW. Official specifications say that Audi's hot Sportback is able to get from 0 to 62 mph
in 4.6 seconds, while the BMW says that their 1 Series M needs 4.9 seconds to reach the same speed. In real life however, things may be a bit different.
