BMW 1 Series M vs Competition

 »  »  »

The BMW 1 Series M took the world of sporty driving by storm a few months ago, when its initial details started to surface. currently, there are indications that the BMW 1 Series M is already sold out for 2011 on some markets. The new BMW 1 Series M promises to be the ultimate driving machine for customers looking to get the most affordable M car ever produced.

The BMW 1 Series M is powered by a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine with an output of 335 hp and 450 Nm of torque. With a top speed of 250 km/h, limited of course, the BMW 1 Series M is able to get from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. In Europe, you'll be able to get one with 50,000 EUR.

Let's see how well the BMW 1 Series M does against its competition. the main competitors of the BMW 1 Series M are the Porsche Cayman S, the new Audi RS3 Sportback, the Audi TT RS Coupe, and the new Nissan 370Z. for the purpose of this comparison, we also took into consideration a slightly more down-market model, the VW Scirocco R.

One of the main focus points of the BMW 1 Series M is that it manages to combine race-track character and everyday practicality. When it comes to practicality, the Porsche Cayman S is not at

the top of our list. In comparison to the BMW 1 Series M, it has minuses in the drive comfort chapter and boot space. Not to mention the fact that it has only two seats.

What the Audi RS3 has over the new BMW 1 Series M is 5 hp and an all-wheel-drive system. Of course, the AWD system carries a lot of extra weight and 5 extra horsepower are not enough to counteract the effects. However, in winter time, the Audi RS3 will definitely have the upper hand. On the other hand, the rear-wheel-drive of the BMW 1 Series M is much more fun and a lot easier to hold in a drift.

The BMW 1 Series M also has a lower center of gravity than the Audi, which is the only 5-door model to be able to hold its own against the Bimmer.

Audi's other competitor for the BMW 1 Series M, the TT RS, also lacks in interior space and outside visibility. Although the Audi TT RS has a second row of seats, if you're not 5 years old, you'll probably never fit in there. The BMW 1 Series M gain has the front spot when it comes to practicality.

The Nissan 370Z is way ahead of the BMW 1 Series M when it comes to exterior styling, but the M Coupe is definitely the place you want to be if you're looking to get away from praying eyes.

The BMW 1 Series M is definitely ahead of the VW Scirocco R when it comes to power, performance, build quality and fun factor. On the other hand, the Scirocco offers more space for passengers and luggage than the BMW 1 Series M and an exterior styling to be envied.

In conclusion, the BMW 1 Series M has all the potential in the world to become one of the all-time grates, with the likes of the M3 and M5. Only time will tell if this will be the case or not.
