In one of their latest review videos, the British journalists from Autocar put the BMW 1 Series M against one of its German rivals, the Porsche Cayman R. The comparison between the two coupes takes place on public streets, which means that their findings may not apply to track conditions.

Here are some raw figures to give you an idea about the performance of the two sport models. The BMW 1 Series M is powered by a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine with an output of 335 hp at 5,900 rpm and 450 Nm of torque available from 1,500 rpm all the way up to 4,500 rpm. BMW's latest M car has small little trick up its sleeve, in the form of an overboost function that gives it an additional 50 Nm of torque.

BMW's official figures say the new 1 Series M Coupe is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. Even though it's limited to 250 km/h, we believe the BMW 1 Series M is capable of going way past this mark is set free.

The Porsche Cayman R has a slightly bigger 3.4-litre engine, developing 330 hp. Porsche says it can get from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds when equipped with the PDK gearbox and that it has a top speed of 280 km/h.

BMW prices the 1 Series M Coupe at 50,500 EUR, while the Porsche Cayman R will cost you at least 69,830 EUR.
