Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG has announced today that the world premiere of the BMW 5 Series Hybrid will take place at the Shanghai Motor Show. This means the plug-in hybrid BMW 5 Series will be unveiled at the middle of April. The new plugin hybrid will be based on the long wheelbase version of the BMW 5 Series (the LWB), which is currently on sale in China. Dr. Reithofer said says this will be their "e-car from China for China".
Unfortunately, BMW didn't release any other details regarding the hybrid 5 Series, which leaves some room for speculation. As far as its petrol internal combustion engine goes, the BMW's hybrid 5 Series could sport a 3.0-liter twin-turbo 6-cylinder unit with a power output of
a little over 300 hp. This unit will work together with an electric engine, but it's too soon to speculate on this.
We'll have more details on the BMW 5 Series Hybrid as soon as they're available.
