Brabus revealed at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show their new hybrid powertrain, which they demonstrate on the Mercedes E220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY. Brabus gave the rear axle of the diesel Mercedes E220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY two wheel hub electric motors, which are developed by Protean ELECTRIC from UK. These two motors can fit in the Monoblock Q 19-inch wheels of the Brabus E Class and develop 50 kW in the Eco mode and 80 kW in the Sport mode each. The total maxim power of the two electric motors gets up to 160 kW and a massive 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) of torque.

The factory 2.2-liter common-rail turbodiesel engine of the E Class sedan also receive some extra umpf via the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D3 (V)

performance kit. The internal combustion engine of the Brabus Hybrid develops 200 hp (197 bhp / 147 kW) and 450 Nm (295 to 332 lb-ft) of torque. All the 360 hp and more than 2,000 Nm of torque are transferred to the wheels by a 6-speed manual gearbox for the diesel engine.

The electric motors of the Brabus Hybrid Mercedes E220 CDI are juiced by a 18.6-kWh lithium-ion battery, which can offer a range of up 120 km (75 miles) in Eco mode and 80 km (50 miles) in the sport mode. The batteries are re-charged via a brake energy recuperation up to 140 kW.

Even though the Brabus Hybrid E Class is 255 kilograms (562 lbs.) heavier than the standard E220 CDI, it's able to reach the 62 mph (100 km/h) mark 1.3 seconds faster. Brabus says that their new hybrid E220 CDI can get from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.4 seconds and from 60 to 120 km/h (37 to 74 mph) in 5.6 seconds. The top speed of the Brabus Hybrid E Class is rated at 190 km/h (118 mph) in Eco mode and at 220 km/h (137 mph) in Sport mode.

If you're wondering about it's price, the new Hybrid Mercedes E220 CDI is still a prototype so Brabus won't sell it to you.
