Caterham released today the details of the new Seven Supersport, which is meant to be the purest version yet of the British sportscar. Derived directly from the car that competes in the Caterham Supersport racing series, the new Seven features all the essential performance parts of the track car. However, some of those have been tuned down for the Seven Supersport to be road legal. The Caterham Seven Supersport is powered by a 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine developing 140bhp, which is mated to a five-speed manual transmission with "sprint" ratio gearing. Caterham fitted the Seven Supersport with a lightweight flywheel, race-tuned suspension system, 13 inch wheels and CR500 Avon tires.

Even though some may say 140 hp is not exactly

supercar levels of horsepower, the Caterham Seven Supersport is not exactly heavy. Thanks to a weight of just 520kg, the Caterham Supersport is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Its top speed is rated at 120 mph.

Other race-bred parts fitted to the Caterham Seven Supersport include the springs and dampers, the limited slip differential, the stiff anti-roll bars, and the track biased dashboard with integrated change up lights and an aero screen.

Caterham prices the new Seven Supersport at 19,995 GBP if you're willing to buy it as parts and put it together at home. The factory built Seven Supersport is priced at 22,995 GBP.
