Ferrari F12 berlinetta

Ferrari unveiled today the F12 berlinetta, or the F12berlinetta as they like to call it. The Ferrari F12 berlinetta is more or less the replacement of the 599 GTB Fiorano and it's advertised by the Prancing Horse as the fastest car they've ever built. As you're probably expecting, Ferrari is going to premiere the F12 berlinetta at the 2012 Geneva auto show, next week. Since the carmaker does say about the F12 berlinetta that it's the fastest Ferrari ever built, we'll get right down to business. The power comes from a 6262 cc V10 engine, which is rated with an output of 740 hp at 8,250 rpm and 690 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. This nuclear powerplant is able to accelerate the Ferrari F12 from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 3.1 seconds.

Its top speed is rated at more than 340 km/h. The Ferrari F12 is able to get from 0 to 200 km/h in just 8.5 seconds. (this is faster than an average sedan's 0-100 km/h time!). Ferrari did not disclose the F12's CO2 fuel consumption, but who cares? It's CO2 emissions however, are rated at 350 g/km.

The Ferrari F12 is similar in size with the 599 GTB. It measures 4618 mm in length, 1942 mm in width, 1273 mm in height and it has a dry weight of 1525 kg.

Ferrari took special care when putting together the F12's aerodynamics. They improved the berlinetta's downforce by 76% and reduced its drag coefficient. Apparently, the Ferrari F12 is able to generate 123 kg of downforce at 200 km/h, with a Cd of just 0.299. The improved aerodynamics are made possible by the F12's Aero Bridge system and its Active Brake Cooling system. Basically, the F12 uses its bonnet to create downforce, while its brake vents open only when necessary in order to reduce drag the rest of the time.

In comparison to the 599, the Ferrari F12 has a few very subtle improvements. Following Ferrari's traditional transaxle layout, the F12 has a shorter wheelbase, while its engine, dashboard and seats have been positioned lower. The F12 is built upon an aluminum spaceframe chassis, and it's equipped with a F1 dual-clutch transmission.

The equipment list of the Ferrari F12 includes carbon-ceramic brakes (CCM3), an updated magnetorheological suspension control system (SCM-E), E-Diff, ESP Premium, F1-Trac, and high-performance ABS.

The interior of the Ferrari F12 berlinetta was designed to match it's Pininfarina exterior. Frau leather, carbon fiber and aluminum are used through the cabin. Ferrari mentions it even has a luggage compartment, but we doubt you'll be able to do much with it.

The Ferrari F12's price and availability will be announced at a later date. Meanwhile, watch a presentation of the new F12 berlinetta, as well as a test drive with Formula 1 stars Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. Both videos are available below.
