According to recent rumors, the Italian carmaker plans to offer a 4x4 Fiat 500 AWD version when the facelift model will come out. The Fiat 500 facelift is expected to hit the market in around 2 years time, or 2013. The updated model will come with the Fiat 500 AWD all-wheel-drive version and with a LPG powered model. Although the Fiat 500 LPG seems to be a reasonable idea, the AWD seems a little far fetched to us. A four-wheel-drive system usually adds a lot of weight to the car and the little Fiat 500 is not exactly the most powerful vehicle in the world. the added weight of a 4x4 system will reduce the performance of a possible Fiat 500 AWD quite considerably.
The rumors say the Fiat 500 AWD will have the
same platform as the company's Panda 4x4 model, with a few modifications.
