Fisker Automotive revealed today at the 2011 IAA in Frankfurt their latest model, dubbed the Surf. The Fisker Surf is powered by a hybrid drive system, consisting of two electric motors, which power the rear wheels. The two motors are juiced by a 20 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack and 175kW generator, which also supplies electricity to the batteries. The Fisker Surf also has an internal combustion, turbo engine, equipped with direct fuel injection, which outputs 260 hp. The Fisker Surf can be driven in two modes, Sport and Stealth, and outputs a very serious 981 lb-ft (1,330 Nm) of torque. Fisker did not announce the total power output of the Surf yet. The Surf is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and to reach a limited top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h).

In the lower power Stealth mode, the Fisker Surf is a bit slower, requiring 7.9 seconds for the 0-60 mph sprint, and has a top speed of only 95 mph (153 km/h). On electricity only, Fisker's Surf has a range of up to 50 miles (80 km). When the electricity runs out, the gasoline engine/generator uses the 9.5-gal (36 l) fuel tank to extend the Surf's range by an additional 250 miles, for a total range of 300 miles (483 km). The Fisker Surf can be fully re-charged from a 220V outlet in 14 hours, which is bit too long for today's standards.

In terms of exterior design, the Surf is strongly influenced by company's other model, the Fisker Karma. The five-door four-seat Surf features a roof spoiler, LED tail lights, 22-inch alloys, and red brake calipers by Brembo. The Fisker Surf also comes with a solar roof panel, which has a double function: to capture light for producing electricity and it is also transparent, offering a great view of the sky. The Fisker Surf has the same overall dimensions as the Karma, the only difference being that the new model is a crossover between a sport car and a station wagon, in other words, a shooting brake model.

At the interior, Fisker fitted the Surf with a generous luggage compartment, folding rear seats, and high quality materials for every surface.

The Fisker Surf price list and availability will be announced at a later date.
