Hyundai unveiled today the new 2013 Elantra GT, which is the new five-door hatchback version of the model range. The 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT will be premiered at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show, after which it will soon go on sale. Hyundai's Elantra hatch measures 169.3 inches in length, 57.9 inches in height, and 57.9 inches in width. It has a 104.3-inch wheelbase. To power their new Elantra GT, Hyundai chose a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, which has an output of 148 hp at 6500 rpm and 131 lb-ft of torque at 4700 rpm. The Elantra GT hatchback will be available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic. Both versions, thanks to being the lightest 5-door hatchbacks in the compact segment, promise the same fuel economy of 28 mpg city / 39 mpg highway / 32 mpg combined.

To help reduce its fuel consumption, Hyundai improved the aerodynamics of the new Elantra GT. In fact, with a .30 drag coefficient, the Elantra hatchback is more aerodynamic than the Impreza.

The Hyundai Elantra GT hatch promises to offer plenty of room for five passengers, including their luggage. It has a 23 cu. ft. cargo capacity, which can be increased to 51 cu. ft. by folding the rear seats. Hyundai says that you'll be able to comfortably seat golf clubs or snowboards in the boot of the Elantra GT.

Here is a list of a few other storage spaces available inside the Elantra GT:

- A sunglasses holder;
- Two front and two rear cupholders;
- Door bottle holders;
- Cooled glove compartment;
- Central console storage;
- Sliding armrest;
- Front storage tray;
- Front seatback pockets;
- A cargo area under-floor storage.

Some of the key features of the new Elantra hatch include a sport-tuned suspension (which could mean a bumpier ride), a knee airbag for the driver, and a rear camera.

To improve the handling of the Elantra GT, Hyundai equipped it with a modern suspension, which features a MacPherson strut with coil springs and gas shock absorbers for the front axle, and a light weight coupled torsion beam for the rear axle. The Elantra hatch also comes with a 22 mm diameter front stabilizer bar.

Hyundai equips the 2013 Elantra GT with their Driver Selectable Steering Mode, which lets you select between Comfort, Normal and Sport.
